Apopka High School Dress Code

One important change is that students may now wear shorts to school every day of the week as long as the shorts extend to at least mid-thigh.  This and the following rules will be strictly enforced.

1.     No hats, caps, bandanas, visors, scarves, sports equipment, sweat bands (head or wrist) or sunglasses shall be brought to school.

2.     Always wear appropriate footwear for safety—no slippers.

3.     Midriff tops, tank tops, strapless tops, spaghetti straps, muscle shirts or any revealing clothing are not allowed.  Pajamas are not acceptable.  No undergarments may be visible.  All shirts must be zipped or buttoned to an acceptable level.  All tops must follow the “4 finger rule.”

4.     No see-through or mesh garments shall be worn without appropriate clothing underneath.

5.     Shorts, skirts and dresses are to follow the following guidelines:  Hemlines shall be no shorter than mid-thigh.*

6.     Apparel with inappropriate, obscene or profane statements or illustrations are not allowed.  These include any reference to drug or alcohol use, acts of a violent nature, racial slurs, sexual innuendoes, or gang membership.

7.     Biker/exercise/short shorts are not considered appropriate for school and are not allowed.

8.     Pants may not be worn below the waist or be so long that they drag on the floor; overall straps or suspenders must be worn on both shoulders.

9.     Wearing clothes or hair in such a manner as to indicate gang membership will not be tolerated.

10.   Items worn by students which could cause harm to others, such as metal pocket chains or pants, will not be allowed.

11.   Any other clothing or jewelry deemed inappropriate by the administration will not be tolerated.

*Mid-thigh is defined as half way from the knee to the top of the leg.
Administration has discretion to determine appropriateness of all attire.
