ATTENDANCE POLICY CHANGES

On a daily basis, student absences are recorded as unexcused.  In order to have an absence excused, the parent must provide a written note on the first day that the student returns to school. It must include a parent or guardian’s signature and a correct phone number.  Phone calls will no longer be accepted to excuse an absence and we cannot accept e-mails.

For purposes of establishing a pattern of truancy, five (5) unexcused tardies to school are counted as the equivalent of one (1) unexcused absence.

The following are the only acceptable reasons for excusing absences:

1.     Illness or injury of the student.

2.     Illness, injury or death of a family member.

3.     Recognized religious holiday.

4.     Medical and/or legal appointments.

5.     Prearranged absences of educational value.

Students with ten or more unexcused absences per semester must pass the semester/final exam with a grade of “C” or higher to receive the earned grade.
